El Gato
The Tourmaliners
The story of El Gato, the conquistador Of Surf. Jazz was his life. He walked and saw everything through Black-and-white, through mild tone colors too strong to explain. Exhibitions of emotions that took him out into the water with such style and such flow that his graceful surfing was like a jazz player. Music, climbing and dropping, improvising shifting and driving, he had clarity there. It was natural for him. He was a gifted artist in the wave. He wasn’t new wave. He wasn’t the old wave. He was the Now- in the wave.
He felt it. He expressed himself. He just couldn’t express himself in society like he could on a wave. He thought of himself as a Lonewolf or a loner with colors that only he could see. Until the day he became redeemed. In the redemption he saw the light and in that light it was Solid Bright.
The clarity of the wave, the climbing and dropping, the driving and shifting moved with him now out of the water. And with this light, oh how the improvisational tunes would flow seamlessly between terrains. He was free. And in that freedom of space he was El Gato, Conquistador of Surf.
